Board-certified in both the US and Canada, Dr. Kar is an award-winning orthodontist who began her academic journey with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and a master’s degree in project management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She spent several years in the design and development industry before making the bold career change to pursue a career designing confident smiles as an orthodontist. She then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. She then completed a craniofacial orthodontics residency, earning a second Master of Science degree and orthodontics certificate. She is a proud member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Give Kids a Smile, and The Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr. Kar is passionate about new technologies and techniques in orthodontics that allow treatment times to be shorter and more comfortable for patients. Her customized comprehensive treatment plans are geared to improve function and enhance one’s own unique smile esthetics.

When she is not creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Kar enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children. She is an avid traveler and remains an artist at heart, pursuing oil painting and sculpting as time allows. She is also an active member of the community and is especially passionate about mentoring young people to enhance their leadership skills and reach their fullest potential.

Sunya Sweeney, DMD, grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia, and loves to watch her patients transform during treatment. Sweeney attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, as an undergraduate and moved to Augusta, Georgia, to earn her DMD at the Medical College of Georgia.

She then completed a general practice residency at New York Methodist Hospital and an orthodontic residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In 2015, Sweeney was board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics — something only 1 in 3 orthodontists achieve. When she’s not in the office, Sweeney enjoys painting, drawing, playing tennis and running, as well as spending time with her family.
