Dr. Daniel Akkaway is deeply passionate about orthodontics. He takes great pride in watching his patients’ confidence grow as they embrace their beautiful new smiles.
A New Jersey native, Dr. Akkaway grew up in Parsippany before attending Rutgers College. He earned his dental degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, graduating first in his class. After completing a General Dentistry Residency at Sepulveda VA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, he pursued a three-year orthodontic residency at Saint Barnabas Hospital, affiliated with Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Dr. Akkaway travels across the country to learn from leading innovators in orthodontics, ensuring his patients receive the most advanced and efficient care possible. He is also actively involved in professional organizations, such as the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. As a Smiles Change Lives provider, Dr. Akkaway donates his time to offer free orthodontic care to children from low-income families, helping to make life-changing smiles accessible to those in need.
Dr. Akkaway is the lucky dad to two wonderful children, Sofia and Julian. When he’s not transforming smiles, he enjoys spending time with family and loves snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, and hiking.
As an accomplished orthodontist with a passion for crafting confident smiles, Dr. Sohn excels in identifying, preventing, and treating misaligned teeth and jaws. He has trained at top Ivy League Institutions using cutting-edge braces and clear aligners techniques.
Before embarking on his orthodontic journey, Dr. Sohn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. He also conducted impactful research in rheumatology at Manhattan’s prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery. This dedication led to the publishing of numerous abstracts and peer-reviewed papers, earning recognition from Nature Reviews Rheumatology.
Dr. Sohn also earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the renowned University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors in Community Oral Health. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, he completed a certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Sohn adeptly managed diverse cases throughout his residency, including complex surgical and craniofacial interventions.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Sohn treasures time spent with his wife, a fellow orthodontist. Together, they enjoy golf, soccer, and traveling the globe.
