Orthodontists in Louisville

Dr. Chris Mattingly, DMD, MS, has been practicing orthodontics and creating beautiful smiles for over 30 years. After two years of undergraduate work at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, he was admitted to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. There, he embarked on a two-year residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics while simultaneously obtaining a Master of Science in Oral Biology.

Dr. Mattingly is passionate about staying on the leading edge of the orthodontic industry and is proud to be affiliated with the American Dental Association, Kentucky Dental Association, Louisville Dental Society, AAO, and KAO.

In every interaction, he strives to form a unique bond with whomever he has the privilege of treating. He loves to make his patients feel like they’re a part of the office family by learning something about their lives and passions.

When he’s not serving patients, Dr. Mattingly prioritizes spending time with his family above all other pastimes. After losing a wife and daughter to tragic and unexpected illnesses, he believes that nothing is as important or as sustaining as spending time with loved ones. Dr. Mattingly also enjoys volunteer work and donating platelets, as he’s seen the life-giving impact of both during his lifetime. Service is a passion that gives his life meaning after experiencing unexplainable losses.

Dr. Christian Howell, DMD, has been practicing orthodontics since 2000 in the communities of Louisville, Bardstown, and Lebanon.

After graduating from high school in Indiana, he entered the workforce, served in the US Army, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. He attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry where he became a Doctor of Dental Medicine and continued his education to receive both an advanced degree in general dentistry and a master’s degree in oral biology. By 2000, Dr. Howell had completed a degree in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics from the same institution.

Dr. Howell is known for making his patients feel cared for and is always looking for the next innovation that will further improve their experience. Similarly, he is passionate about helping other orthodontists stay on the cutting edge of the industry and has held positions at the local, state, and national level to assist in this endeavor. He is proud to be affiliated with the AAO, ADA, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Kentucky Dental Association, and Louisville Dental Society.

Dr. Howell is blessed to be married to his wife of over two decades, Dr. Laura Escher-Howell. Their lives have been enriched by their four children: Ben, Jacob, Grant, and Eva. In his spare time, he enjoys many outdoor activities with his family and friends.
